Needs Improvement

When reviewing where we are I first ask "what went well?" But because "basketball is a game of mistakes, "how can we improve?"

I'd appreciate hearing what two or three areas you notice your team can improve.

  1. We must pass better...priority number one. "The quality of shots directly follows the quality of passing."
  2. We need to reduce fouling. "No easy baskets." We can't afford to give away points.
  3. Our shooting must improve. We are small. "There is no substitute for shooting." We must improve shot quality, accuracy, and range.
  4. Our shooting technique can improve...elbow to target. "When your shooting elbow flies out, shots often go wide and short."
  5. Improve defensive communication. "Silent teams lose."
  6. Reduce turnovers. "Turn pressure into baskets."
  7. Wait for screens. "Wait, wait, wait."
  8. Play even faster. "We play fast." We can play faster.
  9. We need better finishers. "Finish with versatility." Bigs need to work Mikan and Schrempf drills over and over. Others need to be able to finish on both sides of the rim and off both one and two feet.
  10. Concentrate relentlessly. "Win this possession."
Our task is "seeing the game" better. When we understand the game at a higher level, the opportunities grow exponentially. "Basketball is a game of cutting and passing...movement kills defense."
