Breaking Down BBallBreakdown

Coach Nick analyzes video but there's always more for inquisitive minds. Coaching young players, I have to teach them to "see the game" and make their teammates better.

00:30 Dynamic stretching slow controlled motions through the range of motion
01:00 Concept of "Try easier" focus and preparation
01:14 "Next play"/"In the moment" thinking
01:45 Caddyshack moment
01:55 Dribble pitch and weak side off ball screening (creates action both sides)
02:22 "High post split" lots of variations, I think I've seen Golden State run this with their fantastic perimeter shooters. Lots of cutting options.
03:18 Low post mismatch. Key is recognizing and exploiting when they happen.
03:22 Dribble pitch, with threatened slip; top defense rotates to help and offense finds free man
03:38 Coach reminds defense (in so many words) that "the ball scores" NOT your man ("move in the direction of the ball")
04:07 Yoda moment. Kevin Eastman says it "Know your NOS". No paint, no penetration.
04:35 Wing ball screen with slip. NBA defenders would try to force sideline to baseline. Good offense and not so great defense.
04:45 Great wing screen into guard separation for jumpshot, screener defender can't commit.
04:53 Move ON THE PASS
05:09 Help defender drops to paint and the level of the ball
05:27 "Movement and direction". If you don't "jump to the ball", you're gonna be toast when players pass and cut.
6:20 Remember that "ideas (and preparation) are the currency of the future."
