Down 2 (Drill)

This is a drill that I call "Down 2" that I use in the summer. The situation is the offense is "Down 2" points with five seconds to go and in the penalty if fouled. The offensive player is on the move with a pair of tandem defenders.

Coach enters the ball to offense which chooses among catch and shoot (3), penetrate for mid-range shot for tie, or attack the rim. X2 is assigned to contest 3s without fouling and the X4 has to come up and challenge a drive or move past X2.

With younger players, a distinct minor choose the "low percentage" three, but X2 understands her responsibility is to limit that as her primary task; fouling is unacceptable.
