Fast Five Plus: the Wright Stuff

Jay Wright leads the Villanova Wildcats back to the Final Four. What has Jay Wright shared that we can apply?

  1. Spring and summer are about individual development. Fall and winter promote team development.
  2. He's a strong believer in perfecting shooting technique, working from inside out. This is consistent with great shooters like J.J. Redick.
  3. He preaches attention to detail in all actions.
  4. Drills must have direct application to game activities.
  5. You represent yourself and your team with every action.
  6. Stance specifics: hand and head on the ball.
  7. Help specifics: contain first, deny second.
  8. Post defense: teaches take away duck-in from top and preaches back to baseline with ball on the wing but discourage pass.
The messages I take away from Coach Wright are 1) represent and 2) specifics.
