"Ate" Ball: Create, Separate, and Penetrate

Fast Model shares some basic thoughts about the Create and Locate offense. The approach demands spacing and emphasizes penetration into what they call "The DOME" which some might refer to as the Pack.

The article discusses six "zones" and the need for players to keep a zone adjacent to the ball empty to facilitate dribble penetration.

"Piercing the zone" allows for basket attack or penetrate and dish options. For simplicity, the three principle means to enter the DOME are via the dribble, off DHO, or if needed a BALL SCREEN.

The second way to enter the DOME is via the pass. The article illustrates post entry, screen-and-roll, give-and-go, and slipping the screen as four examples.

When the offense uses BALL REVERSAL, it allows for "Pass, Cut, and Fill" (diagram below).

The value of the "Create and Locate" concept may be in reinforcing the importance of spacing and penetration rather than as a stand-alone offense. For teams with outstanding "dribble attack" players and spot up shooters, it could create quality opportunities.
