Success: The Scott Adams Way

Scott Adams baked humor and art into Dilbert. He leveraged that into books, speaking engagements, and fame. What's his process? Tim Ferriss profiles him in Tools of Titans.

Affirmations. Our internal voice transforms us. Our self-talk defines who we are and what we become. Stay on point. Adams focused his message on becoming a famous cartoonist. I focus self-talk about preparation and process. "Prepare. Stick to the process."

Systems versus goals. How do I get better, add value? Following our process overreaches having goals.

Multiple threat. Develop skills in multiple areas. My son earned degrees in computer science and economics. This helped him work in trading system development, which led him to a hedge fund. Experience moved him to portfolio management. Players grow as they develop their sport-specific and interpersonal skills.

Idea generation. When in doubt - think. Idea generation can come from anywhere. For example, an advertisement for a new television program ("Doubt"), might trigger us to research and help players defeat fears and doubt.

Add value by enhancing players' athleticism, skill, game knowledge, emotional management, psychology, and team-orientation. That demands learning, teaching, process development, emotional intelligence, and self-regulation.
