The Miracle of Mindfulness (and Lagniappe BOB)

What is well-being? Well-being implies a depth of calmness and satisfaction. We could think about it as the depth of the ocean, regardless of the surface condition, calm or stormy.

Thich Nhat Hanh wrote The Miracle of Mindfulness. His wisdom benefits us.

"Freedom is necessary for a child's development." (Overcoaching?)

"There are two ways to wash the dishes. The first is to wash the dishes in order to have clean dishes and the second is to wash the dishes in order to wash the dishes." (Are we going through the motions or focused?)

"I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth." (Be here now.)

"Keep your attention focused on the work, be alert and ready to handle ably and intelligently any situation."

"If we are not in control of ourselves but instead let our impatience or anger interfere, then our work is no longer of any value." (Our emotions are different than who we are.)

"Concentration power is the strength which comes from practicing mindfulness."

"Learn to practice breathing in order to regain control of body and mind, to practice mindfulness, and to develop concentration and wisdom." (Take a breath.)

"But to think in terms of either pessimism or optimism oversimplifies the truth. The problem is to see reality as it is."

"Practice looking at all beings with the eyes of compassion." (How do we see our players?)

"In a family, if there is one person who practices mindfulness, the entire family will be more mindful." (Change one person to change the team.)

"Doing your best is the surest way to remind those around you to do their best." (Model excellence.)

"When a great Master is born, the water in the rivers turns clearer and the plants grow greener."

"Don't do any task in order to get it over with." (Engagement not activity.)

"Live the actual moment."  (Live the drill.)

"When we have certain thoughts, we are those thoughts." (Negative thoughts are pervasive. So are positive ones.)

What is the best time to do each thing?  (NOW)
Who are the most important people to work with? (WHOM WE ARE WITH)
What is the most important thing to do at all times? (SERVING THOSE AROUND US)

"Often we forget that it is the very people around us that we must live for first of all. If you cannot serve your wife or husband or child or parent-how are you going to serve society? "
