Fast Five: Teachable Moments from Anywhere

You watch a basketball game and see "what was that" moments. And it doesn't have to be in "biddy" basketball. This is not meant to be funny, more like Goodfellas 'funny'. Teachable moments arise anywhere. Seriously.

"What was that" moment in NCAA Championship game. Of course, there are degrees.

We've all seen players score at the wrong basket.

Duke's women defended the wrong basket against Louisville. What was that?

Players episodically 'flop' on defense. What was that?

Sometimes players lose their mind. What was that?

Geno Auriemma says sometimes "shot selection is just a suggestion." He adds that "shot selection...is the biggest killer of offense...the wrong guy is taking the wrong shot." "I would let you shoot it, but your teammates don't think you should." "If you ever shoot the ball when you're not open and somebody else is, that's the last shot you get that game."

Coach Bob Knight said, "shooters shoot, passers pass, and everyone plays defense." Not everyone plays defense.

There's a lot of ball left to be played this season, and we'll see poor passes, bad shot selection, mental lapses, and no defense. But it doesn't have to be that way.
