UCONN/Texas Women Sets (1/15/18)

"You can observe a lot by just watching." - Yogi Berra

UCONN's offensive strategy defines a third of points from transition, a third from threes, and a third from sets. Geno Auriemma has not only great players (often three All-Americans) but experience coaching the Huskies to eleven titles and the US Women's National Team. The Huskies survived the Longhorns on January 15th, with both teams showing both simple and innovative sets.

Motion action.

Off ball screen to get post entry. Azura Stevens is long and deadly inside.

Texas played a fabulous first quarter, yet led only 24-21.

Horns with Staggered Screen 3 (for Samuelsson) or Iso for Williams or Stevens (UCONN will run it to either side)

Horns Hi-Low Duck-In

Often the best material is the simplest, well-executed.

Flare screen slip out of two player front. Nurse clears the defender and Samuelsson scores.

Texas action. Iversen cut followed by staggered ball screens reversal. Poorly executed but good concept. Alternatively, could have run Spain PnR out of this with 4 screening a 5 roll.

No matter what any team runs, execution informs success.UCONN's "stuff" works because players have the vision, decision skills, and technique to succeed.
