Basketball: Inconceivable Horror Movies

"Education changes behavior."

Coach Lane never served popcorn at the movies. The grainy 8 mm films made us sweat. Film featured poor containment, bad closeouts, allowed cuts to the ball, failed blockouts, dumb fouls, and awful shot selection "$#it shots". Coach Bob Knight says, "basketball is a game of mistakes." Yessiree, Bob.

Anson Dorrance, UNC's women's soccer coach, shares that women need positive reinforcement from video. You can't always choose positive reinforcement.

Even elite players star in "horror movies" that teach our players.

"The relationship between the coach and the point guard is vital." - Coach Nick
In this video, BBallBreakdown chronicles lack of effort, insubordination, and intransigence from one of basketball's smartest players.

"C'mon, man...you're better than that." Mike Lombardi explained that football differs from most sports because players either play offense or defense. Sometimes.

Closing out is one of the toughest defensive skills. Developmental coaches work on closeouts daily. Or do they?

"What was that?" Bad shots reflect choices, situational awareness, respect, and more. Teach players to see the game with more than their eyes.

"Shorten the pass." Coaches love great passes. Inversion means bad passes drive coaches insane.

I dislike horror movies. Teach players to hate starring in them.
