Basketball: Actors and Roles

"There will be a pecking order on every team." - Eric Spoelstra

The Declaration of Independence reads, "All men are created equal," but all players are not. Fit the puzzle pieces together. Everybody isn't the star, but add value for all players and make players feel valued

In his MasterClass, Spike Lee shares, The wrong actors, the wrong roles could turn out the wrong movie.” When players do not fit and embrace their roles, we're in trouble.

Disharmony off the court bleeds onto the court. It's tough enough to play well with the PUSH-T mentality (passion, unity, servant leadership, humility, thankfulness). Stamp out selfishness - "that is not how we play."

Charles Barkley has a saying, "what is your NBA talent?" Hard work is a talent. Toughness is a talent. When we overlook defense, we tell players defense is not.

Don't let ego stop us from better scripting. Spike Lee gives actors a take "their way" and sometimes they improve scenes.

Find the right person for each role. Prepare each to succeed in it. And everyone can't worry about their minutes (lines), their shots (closeups), their perks (trailer)

Lagniappe: Horns provides a myriad of options. There's no mandate to run horns with the 4 and 5 at the slots.

The more pick-and-roll players we develop, the more we pressure the defense.

Lagniappe 2: "What am I prepared to sacrifice for the good of the team?"
