How to Find Your Treasure: Quotes from the Alchemist

Paulo Coehlo's The Alchemist explores self-discovery to find harmony with the world. I share a handful of memorable quotes:

"Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own."

""What's the world's greatest lie?" the boy asked, completely surprised. "It's this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate."

"When each day is the same as the next, it's because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises."

“I see the world in terms of what I would like to see happen, not what actually does."

"And both you and I needed to cleanse our minds of negative thoughts."

"The closer one gets to realizing his destiny, the more that destiny becomes his true reason for being."

"Because I don't live in either my past or my future. I'm interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you'll be a happy man."

"When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream,

"It's not what enters men's mouths that's evil," said the alchemist. "It's what comes out of their mouths that is."

"Wherever your heart is, that is where you'll find your treasure."

"Your eyes show the strength of your soul."

"Don't give in to your fears," said the alchemist, in a strangely gentle voice. "If you do, you won't be able to talk to your heart."

Lagniappe 2: Building a Practice Schedule...our workouts begin next week.
- Operate at a high tempo.
- Avoid 3 L's - lines, laps, lectures.
- Be conscious of "block" versus "random" practice.
- How much fundamental work versus team play?
- Condition within drills.
- Promote competition.
- Alternate high intensity and lower intensity work.
- Include special situations (BOB, SLOB, ATOs, Game winners) into scrimmaging.

Vary activities to challenge players. There's simply never enough time to do everything we want.

"Don't tell me you'll try; show me you can."
