Basketball: The Best Advice

The exhausted medical student had just finished his exams and celebrated with a couple of beers. Walking home, he rested against a tree. He felt a warm liquid dripping down his leg and saw a dog relieving himself. "How did you know I was a medical student?"

What’s the best advice you ever got? Compile an inspiration list. Dubner advises people to "Go Big" in life. Here are ideas:

1. Have a "Jar of Awesome." Every day has a highlight.
2. Keep a success journal. "Great success begins with small ones."
3. Maintain a "commonplace book."
4. Develop a mental "highlight reel" as part of your psychological armor.
5. Have a list of inspirational quotes and stories for reference.
6. Keep a drill book (I use Google Drive for spreadsheets).
7. Keep a copy of "life hacks."
8. Have an "advice" journal.
9. Find a way to store and catalog ideas.
10. Store inspiring scenes.

11. Be more positive.
12. "Share something great."
13. "You can't do size (trading) at highs." - A caution from Investment maven Tom DeMark
14. Become a storyteller. Inform others of where things went well and poorly.

All of which brings me to the second best advice I got, from Dr. Ann Knowlton, when I was a medical student. "You need to speak up more so others will know what you know." The best advice. My parents suggested I ask this girl Ellen out. We've been married for forty-one years.

Lagniappe. Eastman Drills. We like "Force to Tape."
