Lessons from the Harvard Business Review

Empathy is the ability to see how other people feel. Attitudes reflect many inputs - age, experience, upbringing, politics, religion, and more.

Many of us come from vastly differing generations and backgrounds yet share a love of sports and the process. Most of us respect other's opinions even though we may disagree. Disagreement doesn't make us right... or wrong. 

Take time to understand why people see the world as we do. This HBR article explains 

Coaches teach, discipline, judge, evaluate, and so forth. And we're not always right. 

Here are a couple of quotes: 

"One thing you can count on is that regardless of age, everyone wants to be valued."

“What was most exciting to you about joining the company?” “Where have you seen great ideas that we could apply here?”

"You need to manage each person based on their unique strengths and weaknesses."

"Trusting the process" isn't always easy. There is no "my turn" in sports. Craft your opportunity through hard work and positive attitude and be ready to contribute when your turn comes. And meanwhile, be the hardest worker and the best teammate.
