Don’t Be in Witness Protection Plus Triple Bonus Material

Impact lives. The local Rec Department asks me to run tryouts. I often start by sitting kids on the baseline, asking for a volunteer. Hands fly. "Not good enough. When you hear 'volunteer', be up like somebody shot you out of a cannon."

Then came Naomi. One year, two minutes before tryouts, a little girl approached me saying, "Hi, my name is Naomi. Coach, I am REALLY excited to be here." That's how to leave an impression.

Separate yourself from the group. I watched a high school tournament game as a kid. One player ran around stealing the ball, playing like his hair was on fire. I thought, 'impact games like that kid'.

Effort is a skill. "You never get a second chance to make a first impression."

Great offense is multiple actions. Draw and dish. Big men be ready to dive and receive.

"You can't make the club from the tub." Half of success is showing up. Charles Barkley says, "You win forty games by playing hard."

Impact winning through effort, skill, or both.

Sit in the front row. Volunteer. Be underfoot like a puppy. Nobody gets minutes from Witness Protection.

Summary:

  • Separate yourself.
  • Leave an impression.
  • Be excited to be here.
  • Effort is a skill.
  • "You win forty games by playing hard." - Charles Barkley
  • Nobody gets minutes from Witness Protection.
