Separate the 'source' from the 'message' because people ignore the message if the source turns them off.
A MasterClass professor said, "get caught trying" to make a difference. This reminds me of the Pat Riley's, "catch people in the act of doing something right."
Sandwich speech. Use the John Wooden "sandwich technique" of putting coaching amidst praise. "You did good things recently - shared the ball, took quality shots, communicated. Do even more by reducing turnovers. Keep up the great effort and teamwork." That medicine that goes down easier than a curt, "take care of the ball."
"Champions do extra." Stand out by arriving early, leaving late, being available for extra workouts.
Play both ends. A player asked how she could get more minutes. That was good by asking directly. I explained that offense alone wasn't enough.
Get stronger. Sport rewards athletic explosion. You won't be your best if you need directions to the weight room.

Something I tweet out fairly regularly is the following:
Four things that kill offense:
1. Lazy screens
2. Slow cuts
3. Lack of movement
4. Holding the ball
