Basketball, A Sprinting Game

"Basketball is not a running game, it's a sprinting game."

Defensive transition. Beat your man to half court, fully engaged, protecting the rim, looking to stop ball advancement and penetration.

Offensive transition. Sprint and run wide. Ideally the 'second pass' after the rebound is caught beyond half court. By 'run wide' be at the sideline at half court for the wings.

Chase down defense. The "LeBron" chase down block was the 'industry standard'.

Urgent cutting. One of Jay Bilas's principles in Toughness was 'set up your cut'. Add more separation by cutting urgently. Many offensive actions fail because players do not cut with conviction.

"Deception and direction" create separation.
