Alfred Nobel made his name with hundreds of inventions, including dynamite, and made his fortune as an arms manufacturer. Ignoble? But his legacy thrived with his bequest of the eponymous prizes.
The Nobel Prize in Basketball goes to... nobody. But if it did, what criteria might fit? And who belongs on the selection committee?
Nobel prizes recognize developers of disruptive technology or ideas. For example, Wikipedia notes that "Barry Marshall and Robin Warren showed (2005) that the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) plays a major role in causing many peptic ulcers, challenging decades of medical doctrine holding that ulcers were caused primarily by stress, spicy foods, and too much acid."
Who would be on our short list of purveyors of disruptive or transformative technology? Or what ideas or developments leave breadcrumbs to innovators?
Basketball Disruption:
Ethnic and Cultural diversity
One-and-Done
Three-point-baskets
Analytics explosion
International play
Anti-trust action (Haywood v. National Basketball Association)
Mindfulness as performance enhancement
Nobel Prize Committee-
the Peace Prize has 5 members on the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Other prizes are awarded by Sweden. Why not have six?
William Felton Russell
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Philip Douglas Jackson
Jerry Colangelo
Sheila Crump Johnson
Etorre Messina

Lagniappe: need Isolation?
Lagniappe 2: Off the beaten track, from Thomas Keller (MasterClass 3)Want an isolation opportunity?— Chris Oliver (@BBallImmersion) October 13, 2019
Run what you run and have your players hold their spots while the player with the ball attacks. Here is the concept demonstrated by Stonehill College head coach @CoachChrisKraus pic.twitter.com/SRcyc8nJiY
Tempering your food. Chef Keller demonstrates techniques for cooking fish sharing some key points:
1) Store fish in the same position it swims
2) "Squeegee" excess moisture from skin (with a knife) to get crispy skin
3) "Temper" by bringing the fish to room temperature for even cooking and less sticking to the pan
4) Listen to your fish.
5) Fish, like meat, has to rest after cooking.
