Setting Up Three-Point Shots - Reminders from Kipling

 


How many three-pointers belong in your arsenal? That depends on your philosophy, separation, and shooters. If we want open looks, work for them. If we don't have long-range shooters, work on it. "Do more of what works and less of what doesn't." 

Individual. Some call it the "Side Steph" three.

Team actions. Solid screens, hard cuts, and shooters who quickly get balance are critical to making these actions work. 


"Winner" sets up multiple bites at the apple. 


"Portland" uses a staggered screen to get a game winning three. Note how Lillard fakes disinterest and explodes to the ball off the staggered screen. 


"Inside-outside" action can start in different ways. Here the shooter starts in the post, passes outside, and gets a screen.
