Basketball: What We Can Do Without, The Lighter Side

What's on your list of expendables? Some are obvious and others obscure. "I want you to get up now..."

Redundancy. Just say no. We all do it. "Bobby can really score the ball, pass the ball, rebound the ball." Bobby can score, pass, rebound.

Schadenfreude. This German word means to "take delight in another's misfortune." Karma or not, let's work not to celebrate misery. Should there be an "exception clause?" Lakers and Celtics beg for exemptions.

"LeBron versus Jordan." Teddy Roosevelt reminded us, "Comparison is the thief of joy." There's too little joy in the world without sucking more from existence with endless takes on "The King" versus "His Airness."

Injury replays. Maybe it was Damar Hamlin, maybe not. We don't need to see an ankle turn around any more than we needed to see Linda Blair's head spin in The Exorcist

Stop listening to and sharing gossip, rumor, and innuendo. Learn to keep secrets. "Psst. Did you hear that the Celtics are trading Jaylen Brown for _______?"

Doubling down on mistakes. Watch most games and we'll see a player turn the ball over and immediately double down with a bad foul. Every time I see it, Flip Wilson comes to mind. "The devil made me do it."

"That clip." Everyone has their I can't watch this one more time. I just can't. Here's the last time

Make up calls. Sometimes they're subtle, sometimes less so. You know it when you see it

Channing Tatum. If I see another "Magic Mike" ad...

Lagniappe. Sometimes we need a dose of Kevin Eastman. Drills that work.
