Quick Hitter: Earn the Right to Win with Versatility

Many teams use isolation plays close and late to get their star player the chance to score. Even top player seldom have the highest points/possession to favor that strategy.

Among the top dozen 'volume isolation' players, only 3 - Kyrie, Lillard, and Doncic have scores of at least 1.16 points/possession in 2022-23.

What's an alternative? Have a versatile ATO that creates options for "multiple actions" of great offense. Adjust the personnel to fit your players.

Use "hard to defend" actions:
  • Backscreen
  • Corner cut
  • PnR

Horns set, first option, back screen for initial passer.

Second option, corner back door cut.
Third option, elbow get PnR. This can create a mismatch via a switch or if we have a versatile big, a great opportunity for a rejected ball screen.
