Challenge Everything - Professor Jimmy Butler Shares NBA Lessons

Playing the Miami Heat is no picnic. They challenge everything. It's a rock fight and they bring the rocks.

  • They contest the dribble
  • They get hands in the passing lanes
  • They challenge shots without fouling
  • They get out in transition with speed especially off turnovers
  • They scrap and fight for every loose ball
It's not as though they don't have talent either. They have Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry and others.

Miami defeated Boston 120-116 in overtime Friday night using that competitive grit, forcing 20 Celtics turnovers, holding Boston to 7 offensive rebounds, and limiting Jayson Tatum to 14 points on 5-18 shooting.

Film Study. Professor Jimmy Butler teaches:

  • "It's a shoulders game."
  • "Low man wins."
  • "The help can never get beaten."
Numbers game... 95 and 45

  • The '95' is what you do the 95% of time without the ball
  • 45 degree cut turns a baseline drive to an assist and two
"The Butler did it."

  • The Heat challenge everything.
  • "Active hands" create turnovers.
  • Live-ball turnovers create high points/possession.
