Bridgewater's Ray Dalio is one of the most renowned. His four principles above apply for basketball. Perhaps it's a tortured analogy. 

Diversification. Don't depend too much on anything. Diversification smooths results and decreases risk. 
  • Have a main defense and at least one supplemental defense. 
  • Be able to play at different offensive tempos. 
  • Construct an offense with diversity by position. Don't rely totally on inside or perimeter scoring. 
Decision rules. You have a vision and mission. 

  • Have a written primary philosophy and style of play. 
  • Have alternatives when the process is failing. 
  • Do more of what works and less of what doesn't.
  • Continually analyze results.  

Algorithms. 

  • When conditions change, change with them. Different strategies work in different environments. 
  • Be a tracker. "Winners are trackers." 
Learn from mistakes. 

  • Reflect on both positives and negatives.
  • Mistakes fall along personnel, strategy, and operations. Have the five that play best together not the five best players. 
  • Teach "the power of negative thinking" to stop giving games away.
  • Work to reduce turnovers and improve shooting.
