Basketball Teaching Points

Study basketball video of both individual efforts and team play to build basketball IQ and vision. Here are a few highlights from last night.

Young players and less-experienced coaches can learn a lot from breakdown video. It also helps us to appreciate the nuances of the game.

1) Jayson Tatum uses the high ball screen into a classic in-and-out dribble

2) Basketball is a game of separation and finishing. Mikal Bridges scores off of a DHO

3) "The ball has energy." Player and ball movement get Kornet a dunk.

4) At lower levels, players seldom use screens well. Jalen Brunson uses the rescreen to separate and score.

5) Cut urgently and play with purpose. Pritchard (11) takes advantage of unalert defense with hard cutting and buries a corner 3 coming off a screen.

6) Great players master DECELERATION. Tatum creates massive separation and drains a shot.

7) Drop coverage in the high ball screen exposes perimeter shooting. Tatum takes advantage.

8) Celtics "snap" action with Pritchard "backscreen the roller" Spain action for Kornet. Use more 'hard to defend' actions.

9) Bigs must master the pass. Horford with a baseline drive to Brown with a '45 cut'

10)"Draw 2." Tatum draws help from Brunson and delivers the drive and kick assist.

11)Rescreen into "pick and pop."

12)The Celtics set up "snap" again (Spain PnR) but use multiple screens to clear space for a Pritchard 3.
