Basketball is not a democracy. We design actions to get scorers the shots. Bob Knight's reminder, "just because I want you on the floor doesn't mean I want you shooting" has to be shared. We all know of games where role players dominated without scoring.
The play begins with a line and gets the 5 and 4 to the corners. This 'stresses' X5 or allows open corner shots for the bigs.
The ball swings toward the top and screening action creates multiple options:
1) The 3 has a curl to the middle.
2) 4 might be open over the top.
3) 2 is 'the alternative' (via screen-the-screeners action - STS) to "America's Play" where 5 screens 3 for a corner shot.
