Learning or Judging? Post 3200

Are we learning or judging? As a community, what's our priority? Do we want to find or solve problems? 

  • How do we get it right? 
  • What is the quality of our information?
  • How can we tell? "Trust but verify." 
  • Is conflict inevitable? 
  • Can we listen better? 

1. Do I have enough information on the topic?

  • Is it relevant to impact winning?
  • Can I access it?
  • Can I understand it? Do I need another person's perspective? 

2. Have I heard other views, the "other side of the trade?"

  • Is it 'black and white' or a grey area?
  • Is it about right or wrong or about power? 
  • In a controversy, is it skill, teaching, or character-related? 

3. Is there a diversity issue with input from others? 

  • We can learn from other cultures.
  • Don't presume that our view is widely held. 
  • Listen respectfully to others of different age, gender, background, race.
Native Americans had "talking circles" with more consensus on decisions. 

To get it right, we need information, perspective, and diversity of opinion. That takes openness, commitment, and work. That's a lot like what we expect from players.
